Jazz – Routine may contain
no acrobatic tricks.
Lyrical – Routine which interprets
and expresses the musicality or lyrics of the song.
Tap – May not contain pre-recorded
tap sounds.
Ballet – Must consist primarily
of Ballet technique and be choreographed to instrumental
music.
Pointe – Must consist primarily
of Pointe technique and be choreographed to instrumental
music.
Acro – Acrobatics set to any
style of music. An acro trick is a movement where hips
pass over the shoulders.
Musical Theatre – A routine
portraying a character throughout by using lip sync
with any form of dance incorporated.
Song & Dance – Must perform
live vocals. There is no set percentages for how much
singing & dancing it must contain. It is at the
teacher’s/individual’s discretion and will
be judged accordingly. Please request microphones if required on the entry form
Vocal – Routine should show the performers pitch, range and tone. No background vocals may be included. Please request microphones if required on the entry form.
Modern – Routine may be performed to any style of music. Abstract in nature, movement is expressive of feeling and choreographic style.
Hip Hop – Freestyle dance which
does not necessarily contain technical steps.
Open – A routine that does not fit into any of
these categories or combines several of them.
Production – Routine must have
20 or more dancers for this category incorporating any
style that carries a theme throughout. Groups with 20
or more dancers do not have to enter as a Production,
but may enter in the Line Division if applicable.
Novice
– Dancer/s who have never participated in a dance
competition. Any duet/trio or group must be 75% Novice
to be eligible.
Soloists must be 100% Novice. Novice is available in
all categories and age groups.
Recreational –
dancers who train 3 hours or less per week. A group
must be 100% Recreational to compete in this division.
Open – competitors entering
the regular competitive categories.
Professional–A dancer who earns
a living by teaching or performing dance. Dancers in
this category are not eligible for Overalls.
Solo – max 3 minutes
Duet/Trio – max 3 minutes
Sm. Group (4-9 dancers) – max
3 minutes
Lrg. Group (10-15 dancers) –
max 3.5 minutes
Line (16+ dancers) – max 4.5
minutes
Production (20 or more dancers) –
max 10 minutes
All categories have individual ages from 5-19. There
is a 19+ category, as well as Adult and Professional
Categories.
Average Age is determined by all competitors ages as
of January 1, 2011. Add ages together, divide by number
of competitors and round off the decimal. (.5 and up
rounds up to next age)
